Summary

Under the general direction of the Meter Division Assistant Director, the Water Meter Installer removes old residential water meters and installs new electronic water meters according to the specifications of the Municipal contract. Some of these specifications may include the exchange and/or rewiring of water meter transmitters as well. Up to 80% overnight travel to client communities may be required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Completes work as assigned by the Lead Water Meter Installer.

  • Reports daily and on-time to assigned location to attend team meeting, collect materials needed for each day, and touch base with Lead Installer.
  • Arrives to work everyday looking professional, following HydroCorp’s Personal Appearance, Uniform, and Protective-toe Shoe Policies.
  • Ensures collection of inventory and supplies needed to complete water meter installations each day. These items include, but are not limited to, HydroCorp Employee ID badge, municipal ID badge (if applicable), vehicle magnets/decals, gaskets, door hangers, emergency cards, appropriate meters/transmitters, shoe booties/covers, meter wire (if applicable), activation devices, electronic equipment needed to complete work responsibilities is fully functional and charged, installation tools and equipment, and any other project specific items.
  • Records and provides information to Lead Installers regarding material check out each day. This information includes:
  • Meter Serial Numbers, quantity, and sizes
  • Ranges for entire boxes or singular information if applicable
  • Transmitter Serial Numbers and quantity
  • Ranges for entire boxes or singular information if applicable
  • Installs new residential water meters, fittings, and gaskets.
  • Verifies water meters are installed in the correct direction, no leaks are present, and the transmitter is activated.
  • Records old and new water meter readings.
  • Installs new wire per specifications within the project scope or when directed by management.
  • Activation and verification of proper installation and transmission of new meter data by utilizing table PC or smartphone.
  • Captures all required photos applicable to the project. Photos showing installed and activated transmitters are required on all projects requiring transmitter activation. Photos are required to be taken with electronic device used to enter installation data then uploaded in designated areas indicated by project specifications. Photos of photos are not permitted.
  • Logs and completes account data at the time of appointment. This includes data collected from completed installations, data for issue accounts, no show appointments, follow-up appointments, etc.
  • Contacts Lead Installers upon completion of the workday to verify all appointments have been logged, completed, and/or identified with an existing issue preventing completion of the installation.
  • All issues on accounts must contain a minimum of two photos of the issue preventing the installation. Examples of acceptable photos:
  • Door hanger (door hanger on door and house number)
  • Exiting leak (up close view; standing back with piping 1 ft. before and after the issue source)
  • Bad valves (up close view; standing back with piping 1 ft. before and after the issue source)
  • Direct connections (up close view; standing back with piping 1 ft. before and after the issue source)
  • No Access (up close view; 5 ft. distance view)
  • Records and verifies with Lead Installer unused material returned at the end of each workday. This information includes:
  • Meter Serial Numbers, quantities, and sizes
  • Ranges for entire boxes or singular information if applicable
  • Transmitter Serial Numbers and quantities
  • Ranges for entire boxes or singular information if applicable
  • Coordinates installation scheduling and meets quality, quantity and safety requirements.
  • Manages daily communications, data, and reporting concerning installations.
  • Upon assignment to a new location, returns any inventory and supplies required for existing location. This includes, but is not limited to, inventory and supplies as listed above. Additional supplies and inventory will be issued upon arrival to new location.
  • Provides for excellence in internal and external customer service. Create a positive experience for customers through professional and courteous behavior and producing high quality results.
  • Recommends efforts to improve existing processes, quality or client satisfaction.

Skills and Core Competencies

  • Working knowledge of plumbing and water distribution systems.
  • Ability to resolve client and water user issues and answer technical questions in a timely and responsive manner as needed.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical concepts pertaining to fluid dynamics.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Strong ability to use electronic equipment and application software as required.
  • Ability to create and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality when dealing with proprietary information and sensitive situations.
  • Ability to fulfill job responsibilities in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical ability.
